Its model behaviour to a tee

23/08/2009

Tiger Woods is not the only one in the golf world with a problem. Leaderboard Golf — owner of courses including Kent-based Chart Hills and Sandford Springs — has a big problem with “eye candy caddies”.

These are models/dancers trained in “golf etiquette,” who can be hired to carry clubs. According to its website, the caddies provide a “gorgeous solution for unforgettable golf days”. But Leaderboard is not convinced. After receiving complaints from members about their presence on its courses, it has decided to ban them.
Leaderboard insists it is not being a killjoy “in objecting to a service which invites men to select from a photo menu of young women”. That’s not all: “These women are often pictured in their underwear, and judged according to the merits of their responses to questions such as ‘what is your favourite body part’.” Knowledge that is not guaranteed to help your handicap.

Dale Hill Win Leaderboard Challenge

16/07/2009

At 4.20am on Tuesday the 14th July, 6 Professional Golfers (John Tolliday and Craig Howell from Dale Hill, Andrew Wild and Neil Granville from Sandford Springs and Graham Green and Charlie Hayes from the Leaderboard Driving Range) teed off for 18 holes at The Oxfordshire Golf Club on their quest to complete 99 holes of golf over the 4 centres that belong to the Leaderboard group.

Tolliday and Howell took the early lead with a level par round (playing Better Ball) completing the Oxfordshire in just under 2 hours, but whilst they set the pace in score they could not keep up with the speed of the other two groups.

Following The Oxfordshire was a 50 minute drive to the next centre, Sandford Springs Golf club, Reading, for a further 27 holes. Scores were fairly close but the Dale hill boys managed to extend their lead by a couple of shots by producing a score of 1 under for the 27 holes.

A further 2 hour drive around the M25 gave a welcome rest for the players as they made their way to Chart Hills Golf club, Kent. Completion of this 18 holes would be well over the half way mark.

John and Craig managed to shoot a score of 2 under par for Chart Hills, extending their lead by a further few shots.
Home turf was in sight after a 30 minute drive to Dale Hill, East Sussex for John  and Craig where they were to complete a further 36 holes around the Ian Woosnam Course shooting a  level par round, and finally the Dale Hill Course with a 2 under par score to complete the 99 holes in 5 under par.

Many members supported the players over the final 18 holes and there was a great atmosphere around the course and clubhouse to follow.

The Dale Hill boys managed to win the challenge with the Leaderboard Driving range in 2nd place and the Sandford Springs team coming in 3rd place, although it has to be said the Sandford team would have quite easily won a prize for completing in the least amount of time.

With the support of all the sponsors Dale Hill Managed to raise just over £3200 which will be split evenly between the Dale Hill Captains charities, Multiple Sclerosis and Muscular Dystrophy. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone concerned in the day for your sponsorship and support at the event.

The players all thoroughly enjoyed the day finishing around 9pm, and are now trying to work out how they can top the challenge for next year

The Oxfordshire's Daniel Wood has won the Berkshire Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire (BB&O) Autumn Classic to finish second on the 2008 BB&O Order of Merit. The event featured 48 professionals playing over 18 holes in medal format and was held at Witney Lakes Golf Club on Monday October 6. Wood shot a final round 66 - five-under-par to take the title by one shot from his nearest rival Rees Ap'iolo from Downshire Golf Club to defend the title that he won last year. This is the fifth BB&O tournament victory for Wood this season as he recently claimed the BB&O Assistants Championship at Drayton Park. This victory secured Wood second place on the 2008 Order of Merit coming second to Matthew Woods from Donnington Grove Country Club by six points. Wood said: It was great to win the autumn classic as I won it last year but I didn't feel too much pressure coming in to defend which was good. I have been playing quite well for most of the year so my game feels good at the moment. For more information on The Oxfordshire please call Jennifer Daniels on 01844 277 652.

European Tour player Benn Barham gave a golfing masterclass at The Oxfordshire displaying why he has been a force to be reckoned with this season on the tour. The clinic which was part of an invitational day was held on the driving range and guests were treated to a demonstration of ball striking and the basic principles of how to improve short and long games along with one-to-one tuition. The clinic which was held on Monday September 29 was followed by 18 holes of golf where guests were teamed into fourballs with the two best scores to count on each hole. All competitors were joined by Barham for three holes during their round and his score was then added to the team's hole total. The winning team of Chris Lynsey Kevin Redmond Gary Bunney and Gareth Davis managed to accrue a massive tally of 83 points taking first place. Barham has had five top twenty finishes this season most noticeably third at the Inteco Russian Open Golf Championship and is currently 98th on the European Tour Order of Merit. LEADERBOARD LETS THE LEO GO

10/10/2008
The Leaderboard Group has reluctantly decided to end its partnership with the Ladies English Open.
It brings to the end a five-year association between the group and the event which was won earlier this year at The Oxfordshire by home star Rebecca Hudson. The event had returned to the great course after a four-year stint at sister club Chart Hills in Kent. But victory after a long legal battle to grant permission to build a hotel at the course means there would be too much disruption to host the event. Paul Gibbons chairman of the Leaderboard Group said he was sad to end the association with the event but the hotel build and further development of the Oxfordshire as a major leisure resort is now top of his priorities. He said: I think we can hold our heads high with all the work we have done to help promote women's golf and the Ladies European Tour. We have hosted five wonderful events but it's now time for somebody else to take on that mantel. We have fought long and hard to be able to expand the leisure facilities at The Oxfordshire and now we have to make sure our new hotel spa swimming pool and expanded golf operations have our full attention. It was great to see an English contingent featuring so strongly in this year's Ladies English Open particularly as Leaderboard have been such strong supporters of women's golf over the years. We hope that the women's game continues to grow and flourish in England and wish the LET well in their quest to find a new home for the LEO. The Oxfordshire near Thame has now been granted permission to commence building and the first visitors are expected to be welcomed in 2010 with building work due to start next month (NOVEMBER). In addition to 46 double rooms and four suites the new building will also house an indoor swimming pool and fitness suite including a fully equipped gym sauna and treatment rooms.

WOOD PREVAILS AT THE OXFORDSHIRE

26/09/2008
The Oxfordshire Golf Club was host to the first stage of Q School and stage to a thrilling climax with this year's Open Championship silver medalist Chris Wood once again leading the charge.
It was Wood's week as he took joint first place in the first stage of the qualifying school tournament and his dreams of a regular place on the European Tour in 2009 are on the way to becoming reality should he continue his current form. Wood shot a final round two-under par 70 to tie for first place with Northern Irish amateur Jonathan Caldwell on 17-under par. By winning the first stage of Q School at The Oxfordshire Wood joins around 95 others who have booked a trip to Spain and the second stage of Q School in November. If successful in Spain Wood would then progress to the final stage and then need to finish in the top 30 to obtain his full European Tour card. Although he could qualify automatically if he finishes high enough on the leaderboard at the British Masters this week where he has a sponsors invitation.

Abbott takes the title

Oxfordshire golfer George Abbott beat off the challenge of 41 other young golfers to win the scratch medal in the Hunstanton Junior Open. The four-handicapper a member of The Oxfordshire Golf Club claimed victory with 42 points at Hunstanton one better than second-placed Kit Holmes who plays off a handicap of one. The competition was for golfers aged up to 18 making the 14-year-old's achievements even more impressive. George from Horton Buckinghamshire said: The competition was fantastic and really well run. Every competitor also received a goodie bag which was cool. I would have been really chuffed to win either of the competitions but to win the scratch competition on such a great golf course was fantastic. The Oxfordshire has really supported me and it's great to go out and represent the club and bring home trophies. Martin Harris general manager of The Oxfordshire said: We are delighted with George's result. We are proud to be able to say he is a member of The Oxfordshire and we are looking forward to his continued success on the junior amateur golfing circuit.
