Chipping: Lack of confidence by William Bruce
The quickest way to gain confidence with your chipping stroke is to simplify your stroke. I think a great way of doing this is to play the chip shot with your putting stroke, this will help get the desired roll needed and help gain confidence when around the green.
To play this shot, take an 8 iron and set up to the golf ball as you would for the same distance length putt.
Hold the club the same as you would a putter, but play the ball back in your stance off the inside of the right foot.

Whilst doing this, keep your arms and hands forward favouring your left side.
Now go ahead and take your putting stroke.
Remember to have a continuous rocking of the shoulders movement, as a quick, jerky movement will not do and will result in poor chips!
The beauty of using this method is that it takes the wrists out of the shot allowing a consistent stroke everytime.
As long as you keep your head steady and focus on a nice solid follow through you'll strike the ball with more consistency, hence increased confidence and lower scores.
